You have just as high a risk of having a collision in another country, if not more, since you will not be familiar with the roads. What also needs to be thought about is the theft risk that the country bears.
These are all reasons why it is important for you, before you venture on your trip, to make certain your car will still be covered. Approach your auto insurance company and ask them whether or not your car will still be insured when entering another country. In a lot of cases, it will not be. Some vehicle insurance companies will make you pay an extra fee to have your car insured in another country.
This can be an extension added onto your policy. If you are planning on traveling a lot, it can be a good idea to take this extra out permanently on your policy.
